China's MIIT Flags Geely EX2 for Wheelbase Discrepancy in Annual NEV Inspection

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released the outcome of its 2025 annual production conformity inspection covering new energy vehicles, formally notifying the automakers involved of the irregularities found. Seven models fall into four categories of non-conformity, and the findings apply only to the specific vehicles sampled — they do not amount to a fleet-wide recall.

Geely's issue concerns the EX2, which is sold in China as the Xingyuan. According to the ministry, the wheelbase measured on the inspected unit deviated from the declared figure by more than the 1% tolerance allowed. Neither the measured value nor the size of the gap was published.

BYD was drawn in as well: its Qin L DM-i plug-in hybrid, built around the DM 5.0 system, returned higher fuel consumption than stated when tested in charge-sustaining mode — the operating condition in which the high-voltage battery is held within its charge range while the combustion engine provides most of the propulsion. No figures were disclosed for this case either.

Under the applicable rules, the ministry can respond in proportion to the severity of each case, whether by ordering rectification, suspending or revoking the relevant product announcements, or halting the electronic transmission of product qualification certificates. The notice did not say whether — or how — Geely and BYD were penalized. MIIT instead urged all road-vehicle manufacturers to learn from the episode, tighten supply chain management and resist what it called "irrational competition".
