Dongfeng Motor has reportedly been negotiating with CATL since the second quarter of 2026 to secure the first debut of the battery maker’s third-generation Shenxing fast-charging battery. The talks come as automakers compete to bring the technology to market before the end of the year; no deal granting Dongfeng those rights has been confirmed in the report.

CATL unveiled the battery on April 21. At normal temperatures, it can charge from 10% to 80% in 3 minutes and 44 seconds, with a full charge taking about six minutes. The report frames the negotiations as a way for Dongfeng to strengthen its position on battery supply, including securing supply commitments and negotiating prices. CATL held 43.8% of China’s battery market in the first nine months of 2026, despite automakers’ efforts to diversify suppliers.

The two companies signed a group-level strategic cooperation agreement on October 29, covering an integrated network of fast charging and battery swapping. Dongfeng brands Voyah, M-Hero and Epicland are expected to be among the first to use jointly developed products rated at 10C or higher. CATL is also combining its battery-swapping stations with Shenxing charging equipment and plans to have more than 3,000 integrated charging-and-swapping stations by year-end. The article describes the battery’s debut with Dongfeng as a reported objective, not an announced launch plan.
