Chery Jaguar Land Rover has begun delivering the five-seat Freelander 8 in China, following the SUV’s market debut on September 3. The two-row version started reaching customers on October 31; deliveries of the six-seat, three-row variant began on September 19. The model is sold in Pro, Max and Max+ trims. List prices run from RMB 309,900 to RMB 389,900, while a limited-time offer brings them down to RMB 289,900–369,900 (about RMB 1.13 million–1.44 million in the source’s currency conversion). The Freelander name returns under a new energy-vehicle brand developed by the joint venture.
At 5,118 mm long, 2,050 mm wide and 1,898 mm tall, the Freelander 8 has a 3,040-mm wheelbase. The five-seat model provides 935 litres of luggage space, expanding to 2,330 litres with the second row folded; the six-seater is quoted with up to 1,188 litres. Towing capacity is rated at 2,000 kg. Cabin equipment includes a 48.3-inch panoramic display across the dashboard, a 15.6-inch central screen, wireless phone charging and a built-in refrigerator. The second row gets power-adjustable, 10-point massage seats and a 5.98-inch touchscreen in the armrest.
Its range-extender system pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine, used as a generator rather than to drive the wheels, with two electric motors. A 60.3-kWh CATL NMC battery is rated for 310 km of electric driving on the CLTC cycle, or 254 km under WLTP. The 6C fast-charging system can take the battery from 20% to 80% in 12 minutes, and the fuel tank holds 60 litres.
Combined output is 610 kW (818 hp) and 813 Nm, enabling a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds. The rear motor produces up to 250 kW and works with a two-speed low-range gearbox; wheel torque can reach 8,000 Nm. Other equipment includes rear-wheel steering, air suspension, LiDAR-based driver assistance and Huawei-developed i-ATS terrain management.
