EP Manufacturing (EPMB) outlined upgrades at its Pegoh plant in Melaka, Malaysia, during a line-off ceremony for the GWM Wey G9 HEV and Ora 5 HEV. The contract assembler says the facility can now produce more than 30,000 vehicles annually on one extended shift.

New stations and manufacturing software are intended to raise the output of the Lot 210 line from four to 10 vehicles an hour, matching Lot 209. EPMB has also added equipment for faster ADAS calibration, another pre-delivery inspection line and two touch-up paint booths, bringing the total to three. A new 480 kW charger will serve battery-powered vehicles assembled at the plant, while 18 adjoining acres have been acquired for finished-vehicle storage and warehousing.

The company’s RM200 million paint shop is scheduled to begin production at the end of August 2027, with annual capacity of 50,000 vehicle sets. Building work is due to start in January 2027, equipment installation is expected to finish in May, and testing and commissioning will follow. Painting staff are set to begin training in China the month after the announcement.

The facility will use water-based coatings, a three-coat, two-bake process, single-phase painting and two-component clear coat, alongside regenerative thermal oxidation for emissions treatment. EPMB says in-house painting should raise localisation and support a broader Melaka automotive corridor that combines assembly, painting and component localisation.
