BYD's Fang Cheng Bao division has released official teaser images of its plug-in hybrid pickup, the Shark, fueling expectations that the truck will finally go on sale in its home market. Division general manager Xiong Tianbo posted the pictures with the caption "The king returns from overseas!", a clear nod to the model's journey back from foreign showrooms.
The pickup debuted globally as the Shark 6 in Mexico in May 2024 and has since built a presence in Australia, Brazil, Chile, South Africa and several Middle Eastern markets. Homologation filings with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology now outline the domestic version: a 5,457 mm-long body on a 3,260 mm wheelbase, a 2,710 kg curb weight and a rated payload of 460 kg.
Mechanically, the truck pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with dual motors — 170 kW peak at the front, 150 kW at the rear — driving all four wheels, with juice from a FinDreams lithium iron phosphate battery. Top speed is listed at 180 km/h and the powertrain complies with China VI emissions standards.
The homecoming comes at a telling moment. Shark 6 exports fell 25.76% year on year to 20,037 units in the first half of 2026, and Australia alone accounted for roughly 85% of June sales, giving BYD extra reason to open a new front at home.
