GAC Indonesia and MG Motors Indonesia say they are preparing to meet Indonesia’s requirement for electric vehicles to reach 60% local content (TKDN) in 2027. The companies were responding to the rule in comments reported in Jakarta on October 16, 2026.
GAC said its vehicles currently have 40% local content and that it is accelerating work toward the 60% threshold, which it hopes its GAC AION models will meet at the start of 2027. The company also said it is committed to complying with the regulation. GAC and Indomobil Group operate an assembly plant in Purwakarta, West Java.
MG said its immediate target is to achieve 40% local content this year, while preparations for the 2027 requirement are already underway. Both automakers pointed to localizing EV batteries as important to raising their domestic-content shares. GAC’s product expert said batteries carry a substantial weighting in the TKDN calculation, making local production a significant factor in reaching the new level.
