GAC Group has opened its first battery-pack assembly plant outside China in Sriracha, Chonburi province, Thailand. The facility was built by INPOW Battery, a wholly owned GAC subsidiary, with an investment of more than 50 million yuan, equivalent to around 250 million baht. It covers more than 13,000 square metres at Sihaitong Industrial Park.
The plant uses a fully automated assembly line, including vision-inspection systems to help control laser-welding precision and automated welding robots. Locally sourced materials and components currently account for 78.85% of procurement, and GAC says it intends to raise that share. The battery packs produced there will be supplied first to GAC’s vehicle manufacturing operation in Thailand.
The opening adds battery production to GAC’s local operations, which began in Thailand in 2023. The company opened a vehicle assembly plant in Rayong in 2024 and now has 64 sales and service locations nationwide. GAC Energy and partners operate 293 charging stations in the country. GAC also plans a “100 cities, 1,000 chargers” initiative and says it will combine solar power, energy storage and battery swapping as it develops its energy network with partners including EGAT and INNOPOWER.
