Geely has announced that its main brand will enter Canada, with its first models planned for 2027. The company says it is now setting up local operations and developing a retail and service network with partners. It has not identified the initial vehicles, their powertrains or prices, and says product and location details will follow as launch preparations advance.
The move comes after Canada and China agreed in January to allow as many as 49,000 China-made electric vehicles into Canada each year at a 6.1% most-favored-nation tariff rate. Before the agreement, China-made EVs faced an additional 100% tariff from October 2024, on top of the existing duty. Geely’s announcement concerns its main brand; the wider Geely Auto Group also includes Zeekr and Lynk & Co. Lotus, which belongs to Geely Holding Group, has already sent an initial shipment of 18 Eletre vehicles to Canada.
Geely’s overseas business has grown as domestic sales have weakened. In the first nine months of 2026, Geely Auto exported 797,670 vehicles, up 169% year over year, while sales in China declined 23.28% to 1,437,811. Total sales rose 3.01% to 2,235,481, while the main Geely brand, including Geely Galaxy, recorded a 1.91% decrease to 1,750,960.
