GWM is working to shorten delivery delays for the Ora 5 in Brazil, where buyers are currently facing a wait of about 90 days. The electric SUV went on sale in June, and its first 2,000 units sold within a day. Diego Fernandes, GWM Brazil’s chief operating officer, said the company had initially expected monthly sales of 700 to 800 vehicles—well below the initial rush of orders.
Supply remains constrained partly because the model is also arriving in other markets, increasing competition for vehicles made in China. GWM previously sold out its first batch and opened orders for another 1,000 units, with deliveries then estimated to take as long as 110 days. The current wait is shorter, but the company has yet to match supply to demand.
GWM has confirmed the Ora 5 for production at its planned second Brazilian factory in Aracruz, Espírito Santo. The site is expected to build electric, hybrid and combustion-engine vehicles, but the automaker has not said when local Ora 5 production will start or which powertrains will be made there. The SUV is currently sold in Brazil only as an EV.
Its launch offer was R$159,000. The Brazilian version has a 204-hp front motor, a 58.3-kWh LFP battery and an Inmetro-rated range of 349 km. It measures 4.47 metres long, with a 2.72-metre wheelbase and a 362-litre trunk.
