CarExpert has started a three-month long-term test of a GWM Ora 5 Ultra in Melbourne, Australia. The test car is a 2026 model, priced at A$36,990 drive-away; the entry-level Lux costs A$33,990. The reviewer’s roughly 10km commute includes city streets, tram tracks, potholes and faster roads, offering a varied setting for assessing the electric SUV in daily use. The car is finished in optional Flamingo Pink, which adds A$595.

Both grades use a 150kW, 260Nm front-mounted electric motor and a 58.33kWh LFP battery. GWM quotes a 435km WLTC range and energy consumption of 15.5kWh/100km, while the reviewer estimates 380–400km in real-world use. The car’s dashboard display showed 520km when fully charged. It has a claimed 0–100km/h time of 8.0 seconds; DC charging at up to 120kW is said to take 30 minutes to replenish the battery from 10 to 80 per cent. The Ultra adds features including a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, a power tailgate and wireless phone charging.

The Ora 5 has not yet received an ANCAP safety rating. GWM Australia provides a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre battery warranty for private buyers. CarExpert’s first impressions are positive about the cabin’s fit, finish and welcoming feel, but the longer test will examine everyday usability and whether the light-coloured interior stays clean. The review positions it against affordable electric SUVs including the BYD Atto 2, MG S5 EV, Leapmotor B10 and Geely EX5.
