GWM's August sales slip 1.87% as record exports top half of total volume

Great Wall Motor reported August deliveries of 113,396 vehicles, a modest 1.87% year-on-year dip that still represented a 4.93% improvement over July. The company has moved 805,358 vehicles through the first eight months of 2026, 1.98% more than a year earlier, and its cumulative global sales have now crossed the 17 million mark.

Exports did the heavy lifting. Overseas shipments climbed 38.42% to an all-time monthly high of 62,517 units, accounting for 55.13% of total volume, with 415,958 vehicles sent abroad so far this year. At home the picture remained grim: domestic sales of 50,879 were down 27.72% year-on-year, a tenth consecutive monthly decline, even though they picked up 10.48% from July.

Electrified models had their best month of the year at 40,700 units, up 8.55% year-on-year, lifting the NEV share to a record 35.89%. Ora was the standout, more than doubling to 11,018 vehicles, and the newly launched Ora 5 GT and Ora 5 Sport — which for the first time offer the brand's customers hybrid and gasoline powertrains alongside electric — carry starting prices of 71,800 yuan. Core brand Haval sold 64,960 units, with its month-on-month rebound aided by the new boxy H10 SUV, which delivered 10,178 vehicles in its debut month.

Tank (17,737), Wey (7,367) and pickups (12,288) all declined year-on-year, with Wey unable to turn things around despite the recent V8X hybrid launch. Production of 118,316 vehicles outpaced sales in August, leaving year-to-date output up 8.76% at 854,229 units.
