Great Wall Motor has slotted a new flagship diesel into its P500 pickup line-up for South Africa. The 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel, offered in either 4×2 or 4×4 form, produces 170 kW and 620 N.m — a step up of 35 kW and 140 N.m over the 2.4-litre unit still used across the P300, P500 and Tank 300. A nine-speed automatic is the sole gearbox, with four-wheel-drive versions adding a low-range transfer case.
Pricing opens at R724 900 for the 4×2, sold only in Super Luxury trim, while the 4×4 arrives exclusively as the Ultra Luxury grade at R799 900. That figure puts the all-wheel-drive diesel on par with the 2.4T 4×4 Luxury and a full R90 000 below the 2.4T 4×4 Super Luxury.
Inside, buyers receive a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a standard 360-degree camera system. The Ultra Luxury grade layers on a head-up display plus ventilated and massaging front seats, while the Super Luxury makes do with heating alone. Both versions carry a seven-year/200 000 km warranty and a seven-year/75 000 km service plan.
