GWM Australia says its new Haval H7 has drawn more pre-launch interest than any previous GWM model, with 1,500 expressions of interest recorded after the SUV appeared at the Everything Electric exhibition last month. The company also reported strong online viewing figures and interest at a display in Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre. First customer deliveries are expected within the next two weeks, ahead of the model’s official launch next month.
The new H7 is a mid-size SUV with a substantially revised design and is offered only with GWM’s Hi4 all-wheel-drive system. Buyers will be able to choose between hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, each using a 110kW 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The hybrid produces 182kW and 670Nm, with a claimed 0–100km/h time of 7.0 seconds and fuel consumption of 7.0L/100km. Its 1.53kWh LFP battery supports the hybrid system. The PHEV uses a 33.7kWh ternary lithium battery, offers a claimed 137km of electric range on the WLTC cycle, and delivers 320kW and 670Nm; its claimed 0–100km/h time is 4.9 seconds. Both versions are rated to tow 1,500kg with brakes.
GWM has confirmed a starting price below A$50,000 drive-away, while the full price list and specifications are still to come. Lux and Vanta grades will each be offered with both powertrains. The initial Australian version will have five seats and a short wheelbase; a longer seven-seat variant is planned for 2027. The outgoing H7 was a front-wheel-drive hybrid in a single Vanta grade, priced at A$46,990 drive-away.
