JAC's South African arm has set a firm window for its flagship electrified pickup: the T9 PHEV double cab is due to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2026. The timing was pinned down alongside the reveal of the T9 Black Edition, months after the brand first teased the model with a "coming soon" message in August 2026.

Its drivetrain combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, rated at 160 kW and 370 Nm, with a permanent magnet synchronous motor on each axle. The front unit contributes up to 130 kW and 300 Nm, the rear 150 kW and 340 Nm, bringing the system total to 360 kW. That figure would put the JAC at the top of South Africa's power rankings for bakkies, unseating the current benchmark, the BYD Shark 6 Performance — although the BYD retains the torque advantage at 700 Nm against the newcomer's 674 Nm.

On the battery side, a 31.2 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate pack enables a claimed 100 km of electric-only driving on the NEDC cycle, with overall range exceeding 1,000 km. Recharging from empty takes one hour and 25 minutes on a DC fast charger, or around four and a half hours via AC.
