Auto Express rates the Jaecoo 5 three out of five, with UK prices ranging from £23,825 to £30,495. The Chinese brand’s smaller SUV shares its underpinnings with the Omoda 5 and is pitched against models such as the Dacia Duster and Ford Puma. Reviewers say its strongest case is value: equipment levels, cabin technology and passenger space are impressive for the money, though some lower-cabin materials feel inexpensive and the touchscreen can occasionally miss a touch.
The petrol version uses a non-hybrid 1.6-litre engine producing 138bhp. It takes 10.2 seconds to reach 62mph, and the test car averaged 35mpg against an official WLTP figure of 40.4mpg. The engine is described as underpowered and unrefined, while the ride can feel unsettled at low speeds. The 5 is easier to place around town, with a 540-degree camera, and becomes calmer on motorways; handling and steering feedback are not highlights.
Practicality is a clearer advantage. The Jaecoo measures 4,380mm long and offers 480 litres of boot space, expanding to 1,180 litres with the rear seats folded. The all-electric Jaecoo E5 is also covered: its 60.9kWh battery is rated for 248 miles of WLTP range, with charging up to 80kW and a claimed 30-to-80 per cent rapid-charge time of 27 minutes. Overall, the review sees the 5 as a spacious, well-priced choice, while pointing to European rivals for a more polished drive.
