Malaysia’s Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim has recorded RM7 billion in realised investment since 2018, deputy investment, trade and industry minister Sim Tze Tzin told parliament on October 27, 2026. The project’s overall development is estimated to involve RM30 billion through 2035; that figure includes completed, ongoing and planned investment, rather than money already spent. Geely is among the investors, with its contribution described as 23.3% of the overall estimate.
AHTV’s workforce has grown from about 2,000 people in 2018 to 9,300 in 2026, and is forecast to reach 22,800 by 2030. The number of companies operating in the valley rose from 11 in 2022 to 35 in 2026. They include automotive component suppliers and logistics providers.
Among the completed projects are upgrades to Proton’s Tanjong Malim manufacturing facilities, covering greater capacity and capabilities in stamping, painting, body assembly and final assembly. The site has also added production of next-generation engines and transmissions, as well as a 12-megawatt-peak solar farm within Proton’s manufacturing complex.
Sim said AHTV’s longer-term value would also depend on building local suppliers’ technological capabilities, increasing locally made content, lowering import dependence and expanding exports of higher-value automotive products. DRB-Hicom launched the valley on April 12, 2022, as a major project intended to support Malaysia’s automotive industry.
