BYD has revealed further details of the second-generation Dolphin Mini ahead of its sales launch in China. The updated electric hatchback adds interior features including a massage function for the driver’s seat, two concealed storage compartments beneath the rear seats and adjustable rear air vents. BYD is expected to sell the new generation alongside the current car in China, where it will compete with the Geely EX2.

A central floating display uses a split layout, with the left section serving as the instrument panel and the right side handling entertainment functions. The new car measures 4.20 metres long, 1.81 metres wide and 1.57 metres tall, with a 2.65-metre wheelbase. For comparison, the Dolphin Mini sold in Brazil is 3.78 metres long and has a 2.50-metre wheelbase. BYD has not announced the regular luggage capacity, but says the front trunk holds 94 litres; with the rear seats folded, cargo capacity reaches 1,380 litres.

The electric motor has moved to the rear and now produces 129 hp, up from 75 hp in the Brazilian-market version. Buyers in China will have 30-kWh and 39.2-kWh battery options, with claimed CLTC ranges of 320 km and 420 km, respectively. A rapid-charging capability that could take the battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes has been reported as a possibility, not confirmed by BYD.

The second-generation car also switches to independent multilink rear suspension and wider 205/60 R16 tyres. Its styling retains much of the current model’s profile but adds slimmer headlights and a redesigned rear without the existing connected taillights. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor suggests the availability of Level 2-or-higher driver-assistance technology, though BYD has not specified the system in the information reported.
