BYD has revealed design sketches of a second-generation Seagull, the compact electric hatchback known in China as the Great Seagull or Da Haiou and marketed in Mexico as the Dolphin Mini. The redesigned model is being prepared for the Chinese market, though the article does not confirm a Mexican launch for this generation.

The new car is reported to measure 4.2 meters long, 1.8 meters wide and 1.5 meters tall, with a 2.6-meter wheelbase. That makes it 425 millimeters longer than the current Seagull and leaves it 65 millimeters shorter than the BYD Dolphin. The sketches show a sharper look, including trident-shaped headlights, widened wheel arches, slim rear lights and 16-inch wheels.

Power comes from a 95-kW electric motor, rated at 127 horsepower. BYD subsidiary FinDreams will supply LFP batteries in 30-kWh and 39.2-kWh capacities; the stated driving ranges are 320 to 420 kilometers. The reported top speed is 150 km/h. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor is paired with BYD’s DiPilot 300, also called God’s Eye B, with Navigate on Autopilot functions for highways and urban settings.

The article gives a China price range of 69,900 to 85,900 yuan, or about US$10,440 to US$12,830. BYD is positioning the larger, more technology-focused hatchback as a stronger contender in the compact EV segment.
