Proton vehicles are expected to gain Google built-in from the second half of 2027 under a new partnership between Geely Holding Group and Google. The rollout is planned for vehicles sold outside China and the United States, and is set to cover brands across Geely’s portfolio, including Proton, Geely, Lynk & Co, Riddara and smart.
Google Automotive Services allows automakers to integrate services such as Gemini, Google Play and Google Maps into a vehicle’s infotainment system. Some functions work best with an onboard internet connection. For Proton, the technology is considered more likely to appear in upcoming models based on Geely vehicles than in the company’s homegrown cars, which may lack factory-fitted connectivity.
The arrangement builds on existing experience within the group: Polestar, which is part of Geely, has offered Google built-in in the Polestar 2 since 2020. The article also notes that Honda Malaysia equips some models with the system without built-in data connectivity, meaning owners must tether their own internet access to use the full range of services.
Geely’s planned adoption adds its brands to a wider group of automakers offering Google built-in, including Volvo, Renault, Honda, Ford and BYD on international models. The partnership’s stated aim is to bring apps, navigation and an AI assistant directly to drivers through the vehicle dashboard.
