Smart has unveiled the #2 at the Paris motor show, returning to the compact two-seat format that launched the brand in 1994. The electric successor measures 2,746mm long, 1,760mm wide and 1,555mm tall, with a 1,875mm wheelbase. Compared with the fourth-generation ForTwo, it is 51mm longer and 97mm wider, while its height is unchanged. The car is built on a new Electric Compact Architecture developed by Geely, which owns half of Smart alongside Mercedes-Benz.
The #2 has a rear-mounted motor driving the rear wheels, producing 60kW and 130Nm. Its 35.8kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supports DC fast charging at up to 65kW; AC charging is rated at up to 11kW on higher-spec versions. Smart quotes a WLTP range of 290km and a vehicle weight of 1,140kg. The cabin has two seats, a 10.1-inch central infotainment screen and an 8.8-inch driver display. Boot capacity varies from 305 to 527 litres, and the folding lower tailgate section is rated to carry 120kg.
European buyers will have Pure, Pure+ and Premium trims, with equipment including adaptive cruise control and external power capability. Premium adds features such as blind-spot monitoring, a glass roof and an upgraded sound system. A limited Couture Edition will be capped at 999 cars for Europe and another 999 for China. European pricing has not been confirmed; reports cited in the source suggest a figure just under €20,000. Australian availability also remains undecided.
