Xpeng GX owner gives flagship SUV a full Range Rover makeover in China

An Xpeng GX owner in China has taken the SUV's widely noted resemblance to the Range Rover several steps further. Photos from design studio Sugar Design show the flagship crossover wearing bronze trim around the body — including the U-shaped front-door elements that have become a signature of the newest Range Rover — plus bronze touches on the wheels and roof, and Range Rover lettering on both the nose and tail. The conversion continues inside, where the two-spoke steering wheel now carries the British brand's name, a change that pushes the mimicry, one might say, "to the point of absurdity."

Beyond the makeover, the GX is a substantial machine: it measures 5,265 mm long on a 3,115 mm wheelbase — actually 14 mm longer than a long-wheelbase Range Rover — slips through the air with a 0.255 drag coefficient, and seats six in a 2+2+2 layout. Trunk space ranges from 673 liters to 1,748 liters with the third row folded.

Buyers choose between an EREV and a pure EV. The EREV pairs a 1.5-liter range extender with dual motors totaling 370 kW (496 hp); its 63.3 kWh battery delivers 430 km of CLTC electric range and, with a 60-liter tank, 1,585 km combined. The entry EV makes 270 kW (362 hp) from a rear motor and a 91.9 kWh battery for 665 km, while the AWD version raises output to 430 kW (577 hp) with a 110 kWh pack good for 750 km. Driver-assist hardware spans four tiers from 750 to 3,000 TOPS, with the L4-capable Robo variant due in the second half of 2026, alongside Bosch steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire, dual-chamber air suspension, and 7.5-degree rear-wheel steering.

Pricing runs 279,800–359,800 yuan (about $41,700–53,600) in China — a fraction of the Range Rover's 1,412,000 yuan ($210,490) starting sticker. According to China EV DataTracker, Xpeng delivered 21,025 GX units in its home market between May and August 2026, though nobody has counted how many of those now pretend to be Range Rovers.
