A camouflaged Xpeng L05 has been filmed testing near Bukit Raja in Malaysia, heading towards Klang. The sighting follows Xpeng’s confirmation that a midsize SUV would join the L03 in Malaysia this year. The L05 was introduced in China the previous week, and the report identifies the prototype as that model with reasonable certainty. Xpeng is expected to bring the battery-electric version to Malaysia first, with the range-extender variant potentially following later.
Sold in China under the Mona sub-brand, the L05 measures 4,870 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,363 mm tall, with a 2,940 mm wheelbase. It is rear-wheel drive and produces 249 PS and 280 Nm, with a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds. The EV is available with 58.2-kWh or 71.1-kWh LFP batteries, rated for up to 535 km and 635 km on China’s CLTC test cycle; the article estimates corresponding WLTP figures of about 440 km and 520 km.
The range-extender version combines a 37.2-kWh battery, a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 42-litre fuel tank. Its stated CLTC electric range is 310 km, while combined range is 1,310 km. The L05 has five seats and up to 702 litres of boot space, and includes a 17.3-inch central screen, a 26.8-inch head-up display and Xpeng’s Turing AI chip. The report also says its VLA 2.0 driving-assistance system is expected to reach Malaysian customers within two years as part of a global rollout.
