Auto Express has reviewed the Xpeng X9, a large electric MPV aimed at the premium segment dominated by models such as the Mercedes V-Class and Volkswagen Multivan. The vehicle is built in Graz, Austria, by Magna Steyr, and the tested Long Range front-wheel-drive version is listed at £79,900, with sales due to begin in the UK in early 2027. A Standard Range version starts at £74,900.
The seven-seat cabin is the X9’s strongest selling point. Features include Nappa leather, massage functions for the first two rows, reclining second-row seats and a ceiling-mounted 21.4-inch screen. A compartment beneath the centre console can chill or warm items, while the boot offers 721 to 2,250 litres of space. The third row is less comfortable for adults, and the reviewer also notes limited thigh support for taller occupants.
The review praises the dual-chamber air suspension for smoothing most bumps and says rear-wheel steering helps manoeuvring the large vehicle in town. However, the ride can be abrupt over some road imperfections, steering feels light on the motorway, and the driver-assistance system occasionally wanders between lane markings. The touchscreen-heavy controls and voice assistant also take some getting used to.
The Long Range model has a 106.7kWh battery, 315bhp and 450Nm, with a stated range of 382 miles, a 0-60mph time of 7.9 seconds and a 124mph top speed. The article reports an 800-volt system and rapid charging, listing up to 542kW and a 10-to-80-percent charge in 12 minutes in its specifications. An all-wheel-drive version is also available; the review questions the need for its 500bhp output in a people carrier.
