BYD has raised the price of the Atto 2 GL in Brazil by R$16,670, from its R$149,990 launch price to R$166,660. The GS remains at R$169,990, leaving just R$3,330 between the two versions. The GL’s new price is also above the Honda HR-V’s listed entry price of R$166,400, while the Volkswagen T-Cross and Hyundai Creta start at R$120,000 and the Jeep Renegade at R$129,990.
Both versions pair a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and an eCVT transmission. The combustion engine produces 97 hp; combined output is 177 hp in the GL and 197 hp in the GS, with 30.6 kgfm of torque in either version. BYD quotes a 0–100 km/h time of 8.4 seconds for the GL, while the GS is 0.1 second quicker.
The main difference is electric capability. The GL has a 7.8-kWh battery and an Inmetro-rated electric range of 33 km; the GS uses an 18-kWh battery and can travel up to 75 km without using fuel. Charging power is 3.3 kW for the GL and 6.6 kW for the GS, with neither supporting rapid charging.
The GS also adds a panoramic UV-protective roof, faux-leather seats, six-way electric adjustment for the driver’s seat, and a 12.8-inch multimedia screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Its equipment includes several collision, lane and blind-spot alerts and driver-assistance features. The Atto 2 was presented in June and reached dealerships in August; the article describes it as Brazil’s first flex-fuel plug-in hybrid.
