BYD has opened pre-orders in China for the second-generation Seagull electric hatchback. Reservations are available through the BYD App with a 2,000-yuan deposit, which the company says confirms purchase interest rather than forming a sales contract. Customers can cancel before an order is locked, and will be able to change their choices after the official launch. BYD has not disclosed trims, configurations or prices; the new car is expected to cost less than 100,000 yuan.
The redesigned Seagull measures 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. It is 425 mm longer than the current model and has a five-seat cabin. Interior and storage features include a center display that also serves as the instrument panel, a 94-liter compartment under the bonnet and up to 1,380 liters of trunk capacity with the rear seats folded. Six exterior colors are listed: green, orange, white, pink, blue and gray.
Power comes from a 95 kW (127 hp) rear motor, paired with a choice of 30 kWh or 39.2 kWh batteries. BYD quotes a CLTC range of 320–420 km, equivalent to 262–344 km under WLTP. The car is also expected to offer flash charging, with a claimed 10-to-97% charge time of nine minutes, and optional roof-mounted LiDAR as part of the DiPilot 300 driver-assistance system.
The larger Seagull is positioned against the Geely EX2, known as Xingyuan or E2 in China. The current Seagull sold 74,087 units from January through August 2026, a 66.5% year-on-year decline. Its listed price range is 69,900–85,900 yuan.
