BYD has begun selling its Racco electric kei car outside Japan, with Sri Lanka the first overseas market. The introductory price is 11.45 million Sri Lankan rupees, equivalent to about Rp 625 million. In Japan, the Racco is priced at around Rp 200 million, making the Sri Lankan figure nearly three times higher. BYD Sri Lanka says the introductory offer runs until November 9, after which the regular price will be higher.

The report attributes the price gap to Sri Lanka’s high import duties and taxes, which also affect other vehicles. As an example, it cites the petrol-powered Toyota Yaris Cross at 19.95 million rupees, or more than Rp 1 billion, compared with a starting price of around Rp 300 million in Indonesia.

The Racco is offered with two LFP battery options. The smaller 22.4-kWh pack is rated for 210 km of WLTC range, while the 35.84-kWh version is rated for 320 km; DC fast charging is supported at up to 100 kW. With the rear seats folded flat, luggage capacity reaches 1,372 liters. Equipment listed includes power sliding doors with foot-gesture operation, an NFC smartphone key, V2L, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, heated front seats and steering wheel, six airbags, tire-pressure monitoring, and six-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat.
