BYD has introduced a substantially revised Dolphin Mini in China, where the hatchback is known as the Seagull. It has grown considerably and is intended to compete more directly with the Geely EX2. The current and new generations are expected to remain on sale alongside each other for a period.
The new model switches to rear-wheel drive and offers electric motors rated at 114 cv or 127 cv, each producing 13.2 kgfm of torque. BYD lists a top speed of 150 km/h and a 0–50 km/h time of 4.9 seconds. Its second-generation Blade battery comes in 30.1-kWh and 39.2-kWh sizes, with China-cycle CLTC ranges of 320 km and 420 km. With the larger pack, a 10–70% charge is claimed to take five minutes using BYD’s Flash Charging technology.
At 4.20 metres long, the hatch is 42 cm longer than the current version sold in Brazil; its wheelbase is 2.65 metres. Other changes include independent multilink rear suspension and a roof-mounted LiDAR system for driver-assistance functions. Cabin features include a massaging driver’s seat, multimedia screens of up to 15.6 inches, a 380-litre boot and a 94-litre front trunk.
China pricing spans five versions from 65,900 to 99,900 yuan, equivalent in the source to about R$52,565–R$79,685. BYD has confirmed the new generation for Brazil, but the report says exports and its arrival there are expected only after 2028.
