BYD’s second-generation Seagull has completed a tire-burst test at 140 km/h in China. The right-front tire was punctured at several points, causing a rapid loss of pressure. In the published test, the hatchback remained stable, slowed down and did not veer from its path. The test was shared on Chinese social media by Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean series. The report cautions that one demonstration cannot remove the risk of losing control: road conditions, tire condition, speed and driver response can all affect the outcome.

The new Seagull measures 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. It is 425 mm longer overall than its predecessor and now has five seats rather than four. The rear-wheel-drive hatchback is offered with 85 kW or 95 kW electric motors, paired with 30.1 kWh or 39.2 kWh LFP batteries. BYD quotes CLTC ranges of 320 km and 420 km, respectively. The company says charging from 10% to 97% can take nine minutes under suitable conditions, though actual times vary with battery temperature and charger output.

Cabin equipment includes a 15.6-inch central screen, 50 W wireless phone charging, an eight-speaker audio system and a driver’s seat with massage function. A LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye/DiPilot 300 driver-assistance package is optional. In China, prices run from RMB 65,900 to RMB 99,900. The car is also sold in some overseas markets under names including Dolphin Surf, Dolphin Mini and Atto 1.
