Camouflaged BYD Sealion 06 SUVs have been spotted in Espírito Santo, Brazil, where they are beginning road testing and homologation. At least three new vehicles have arrived, adding to examples imported earlier. The article does not give a launch date, but says the model is expected to occupy a higher position than the Song Plus, between that SUV and the Atto 8 in BYD’s Brazilian range.
BYD plans to keep the current Song Plus on sale in Brazil and begin assembling it at its Camaçari, Bahia, plant during 2026. That local production is intended to reduce the model’s exposure to import taxes while the Sealion 06 prepares for a later arrival. In China, the Sealion 06 replaced the Song Plus in July 2025.
The plug-in hybrid version uses BYD’s fifth-generation DM-i system. In China, it pairs a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine rated at 101 hp with a 218-hp front electric motor. Battery options of 18.3 kWh and 26.6 kWh are listed with electric-only ranges of 121 km and 170 km, respectively; DC charging is supported at up to 54 kW. The article notes that this engine pairing may not suit Brazil, where the Song Plus uses a 1.5-liter turbo.
The fully electric Sealion 06 uses BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo and rear-wheel drive. Its 400-volt version has a 65.2-kWh battery, 231 hp and a stated 520-km range; 800-volt Pro and Plus versions use a 78.7-kWh battery, make 245 hp and are rated for up to 605 km. The SUV measures 4.81 m long and has a 2.82-m wheelbase, six centimeters longer than before, with a design aligned to BYD’s Ocean family.
