BYD starts selling $3,800 home solar bundles through its Brazilian dealer network

BYD has begun retailing household solar packages through 233 of its dealerships across Brazil, and the offer is open to everyone — no BYD ownership required. Each standard set combines eight 600-watt panels for a total of 4.8 kWp, along with an inverter, mounting hardware and cabling, and is expected to yield roughly 600 kWh of electricity per month under typical conditions.

Everything is wrapped into a single contract covering the hardware, fitting, certification with local power distributors and a year of insurance. Production happens in Brazil itself: the components come off the line at BYD's Campinas plant in São Paulo state. The full package runs to about 19,000 BRL, or roughly US$3,800.

The rollout is timed with the arrival of the Song Pro Flex, a plug-in hybrid SUV developed specifically for Brazil. Customers who pay cash for the SUV or finance it through Banco Santander can spread the kit over 36 monthly instalments of 512 BRL (about US$100) with no down payment and no interest — though a financial operations tax of 578.62 BRL and a 1,149 BRL registration fee sit outside that deal. Owners of any car, regardless of brand, can also borrow for the kit through the same bank, with monthly rates starting at 1.69%.

Solar has long been part of BYD's playbook: it set up BYD Solar in 2008, and in 2010 founder Wang Chuanfu named vehicles, solar power and energy storage as the company's three energy pillars. The Campinas module line now has 0.5 GW of capacity and had already surpassed 2 million units produced by 2022. As for the SUV, it is built at Camaçari and runs on electricity, petrol or ethanol — the GL version manages 60 km on electricity alone, the GS 120 km — while its 1.5-litre flex-fuel engine pairs with BYD's DM-i hybrid system.
