BYD is pursuing a major expansion of its Camaçari factory in Bahia, Brazil, with a long-term goal of producing 600,000 vehicles a year. The company has begun applying for the required permits, but has not set a completion date. The site was initially designed for 150,000 vehicles annually, with a later phase expected to lift capacity to 300,000.

The push reflects rising demand. BYD reported 22,209 vehicle registrations in Brazil in September 2026, equal to 8.5% of the market, and said it was close to reaching 200,000 vehicles billed in the country for the year. Registrations climbed from 17,937 in 2023 to 76,713 in 2024 and 112,814 in 2025. The company says monthly orders are around 30,000, while it aims to produce 25,000 a month by the end of 2026, leaving a reported monthly shortfall of 5,000 to 6,000 vehicles.

Exports are part of the factory’s planned role: BYD says it has orders for 50,000 vehicles each from Argentina and Mexico, with deliveries expected to begin in 2027. The company also intends to raise the locally sourced component share of its cars above 50% early next year.

Camaçari currently assembles the Dolphin Mini, King and Song Pro. Body-welding and paint-shop construction is complete, equipment is undergoing final tests, and more than 1,100 employees are training for those operations. BYD says the complex employs about 9,000 people directly and plans to reach at least 10,000 by year-end.
