Caoa Chery has recorded more than 400,000 vehicle registrations in Brazil since entering the market. The company’s local history began in 2009, when Chery operated through a different importer. Its early offerings included small cars such as the QQ, Face and S-18, alongside the Tiggo SUV, Cielo and Celer passenger cars, and light commercial vehicles. Sales were modest, although the company already had plans for a factory in Jacareí.

A partnership with the CAOA group in 2017 reshaped the brand’s position in Brazil. The operation assembled the Tiggo 2 and Arrizo 5 and 6 in Jacareí, before placing greater emphasis on SUVs. The Tiggo 5X and Tiggo 7 helped build that business, followed by the larger Tiggo 8. The company’s current production strategy also involves its plant in Anápolis, Goiás.

Electrification has become part of the lineup, which has included 48-volt mild-hybrid versions of the Tiggo 5X and Tiggo 7, as well as plug-in hybrid Tiggo 8 Pro, Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 models. The latest step is the Tiggo 9, a seven-seat, mid-size SUV with plug-in hybrid power and a 2.0-liter TGDi engine. The article presents the 400,000-registration milestone as a marker of the brand’s growth and its move toward an SUV-centered range.
