Chinese automaker Chery’s iCaur brand has confirmed it will enter the UK in early 2027. Its first British model will be the V27, a large, rugged SUV whose styling and dimensions are likened to the Land Rover Defender. iCaur is part of Chery International, alongside brands including Jaecoo, Omoda and Lepas.

The V27 is a range-extender plug-in hybrid, although its final UK specification has not been announced. International versions use a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 154bhp as a generator, with either a 20kWh or 34kWh LFP battery powering one or two electric motors. The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version makes 248bhp; the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive model delivers 449bhp. Quoted electric-only ranges are 59 miles and 93 miles respectively, while both versions are said to exceed 600 miles overall. DC rapid charging can take the battery from 20 to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes.

Despite its off-road-inspired appearance, the V27 uses a monocoque chassis rather than body-on-frame construction. Its cabin is expected to feature an upright dashboard, leatherette upholstery, a central touchscreen, a digital driver display and physical controls. UK prices and equipment will be disclosed before sales begin. The SUV is expected to cost more than the Jaecoo 7, while remaining competitively priced, and Chery plans to refine it at its Millbrook R&D centre in Bedfordshire for British roads and tastes.
