Chery has revealed the Tiggo X7, a rugged-looking mid-size SUV and the first in a planned family of off-road-focused X models. Its Australian arrival remains undecided: Chery Australia says several international models are being considered, while right-hand-drive production has been confirmed. Chery South Africa plans to launch the X7 there in July–September 2027.

The X7 measures 4636mm long, 1970mm wide and 1788mm tall, with a 2700mm wheelbase. It sits between the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 in size and is expected to use a substantially upgraded version of their T1X platform. Chery says the SUV will have more than 200mm of ground clearance, all-terrain tyres, crawl control and drive modes for conditions including sand, mud, snow, rock and water. It can ford up to 700mm, with approach and departure angles of 22 and 26 degrees respectively. Despite its off-road positioning, it uses unibody construction rather than a body-on-frame layout.

Chery’s French arm says two- and four-wheel-drive versions will be offered, alongside hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The powertrain details remain incomplete; the disclosed combustion engine produces 115kW and 220Nm. The cabin has not yet been shown, but is expected to share features with the Tiggo 7, including a large central touchscreen, digital instrument display and powered seats. The article notes that GWM’s upcoming Haval H7 follows a similar boxier SUV formula and is also planned as a plug-in hybrid.
