Chery is aiming to sell 500,000 vehicles a year in Brazil by 2031, according to plans outlined by Guibing Zheng, the company’s vice-president and head of Chery International. Most of Chery’s expanding Brazilian operation is expected to sit under Omoda & Jaecoo, while Caoa Chery will remain independent. Jetour is also operating separately and has no local manufacturing partner, the report says.
The company views Brazilian production as essential to its sales ambitions, but it has not confirmed a factory or a manufacturing location. Potential sites mentioned include Jaguar Land Rover’s plant in Itatiaia, Rio de Janeiro state, and Caoa Chery’s facility in Jacareí, São Paulo state; either option would require negotiations. Caoa Chery already has a plant in Anápolis, Goiás.
Chery identified the Himla pickup and QQ compact as models that need local production. It also plans to introduce flex-fuel technology on seven models initially. The Brazilian portfolio overseen by Omoda & Jaecoo is expected to include Lepas and iCAUR, with Luxeed and Freelander also cited as prospective additions. The report does not specify a launch timetable for those brands or confirm the proposed production plans.
