Chinese automakers accounted for 402,619 of the 2,156,499 cars and light commercial vehicles registered in Brazil through September 2026, giving them a combined 18.7% market share. The figures mark a substantial presence in a market where, according to the analysis, buyers are increasingly drawn to competitive pricing, equipment and hybrid and electric options. The ranking covers 12 Chinese brands with a significant dealer network and model range in Brazil.
BYD led by a wide margin, with 169,135 registrations—more than 40% of the Chinese-brand total and 7.84% of the overall market. GWM came next with 63,402, followed by Caoa Chery at 58,041. Geely registered 37,804 vehicles and Omoda Jaecoo 35,081. Other brands in the list included GAC, Caoa Changan, Leapmotor, Jetour, Denza, MG and Zeekr.
Chinese brands were especially prominent in retail sales. BYD held an 11.61% retail share, just behind Volkswagen’s 12.54% and slightly ahead of Fiat’s 11.59%. In the top 10 retail models, BYD Dolphin Mini led with 46,898 registrations; the BYD Dolphin, GWM Haval H6 and Geely EX2 also made the list. Together, those four Chinese models represented 40.56% of registrations among the top 10.
The report says the next test is whether brands can support sales growth with dependable after-sales service. Parts availability, insurance costs and used-car resale values are identified as key challenges for sustaining their gains in Brazil.
