Thailand's week was dominated by weekend price cuts on BYD plug-in hybrids, but the more informative items were the nine-month registration table and GAC Aion's plan for a second Thai factory.

Golden Weekend discounts

BYD's October 17–18 campaign cut prices on Thai-assembled plug-in hybrids by up to THB 100,000:

  • Seal 5 DM-i: Standard from THB 599,900 to 499,900, Premium from 699,900 to 599,900.
  • Sealion 5 DM-i: Dynamic from 759,900 to 659,900, Premium from 799,900 to 699,900.
  • Sealion 6 DM-i: Dynamic from 879,900 to 799,900 and Premium from 939,900 to 879,900. The Extended is listed at THB 969,900 with no discount specified. The Seal 5 DM-i Dynamic stays at THB 659,900 and is not part of the promotion.

The market table

Thailand registered 555,593 vehicles in January–September. Toyota led with 191,167 (34.4%), Honda had 58,264 (10.5%) and Isuzu 50,759 (9.1%); BYD was fourth with 33,913 registrations and a 6.1% share.

GAC Aion expands

GAC Aion Thailand plans new models, more capacity and a second Thai factory. It expects to sell more than 25,000 vehicles in 2026, after first-eight-month sales already exceeded its full-year 2025 total, and slated the Aion i60 and UT Cross for the fourth quarter. The UT Cross, with 20 mm more ground clearance than the UT, will be shown at the December Motor Expo.

Imports and November launches

Denza published Thai prices for the imported D9 MPV: THB 1,949,900 for the Premium FWD and THB 2,399,900 for the Performance AWD. XPeng's importer plans to launch the G9L in November, its fourth model after the G6, X9 and L03, and GWM plans the Ora 5 Wagon in November, with Thai specifications and prices not yet announced.

What it means

  • BYD's discounts are on locally assembled hybrids, not imports.
  • A 6.1% share and fourth place leave Japanese brands far ahead in the registration table.
  • GAC Aion's local-manufacturing plan is the clearest sign of long-term commitment this week.
