Chinese passenger cars posted a strong showing in South Africa in October 2026, according to sales data from Naamsa. Chery’s Tiggo 4 Cross led the ranking with 1,924 units, enough to place it among the country’s three best-selling passenger cars overall. The article attributes the Chinese brands’ appeal to competitive pricing, generous standard equipment and warranty offers, as buyers face financial pressure.
The Haval Jolion ranked second among the Chinese models at 1,343 units. Jetour’s T2 recorded 753 sales, followed by the Omoda C5 at 726 and Jetour Dashing at 646. The rest of the top 10 comprised Chery Q (438), Jetour T1 (364), Jaecoo J5 (350), Jetour X70 Plus (339) and GWM Ora 5 (336). Listed starting prices included R279,900 for the Tiggo 4 Cross, R348,950 for the Jolion and R569,900 for the T2. Geely does not provide sales figures to Naamsa.
The report says Chinese brands’ pricing and fast product introductions are putting pressure on established European, Japanese and South Korean manufacturers, particularly those without local passenger-car production or manufacturing in India. It also points to further launches: Chery’s Grootman bakkie is planned for the first quarter of 2027, while BYD’s Denza, Zeekr’s 7X and 001, additional Deepal models from Changan, and JAC’s T9 PHEV are among the forthcoming offerings. Geely’s Riddara RD6 entered South Africa’s bakkie segment in late 2026.
