BYD’s premium brand Denza has officially changed its identity to Danza in Indonesia. Luther Panjaitan, head of public relations and government affairs at PT BYD Motor Indonesia, confirmed the new name. He described the move as part of the company’s longer-term effort to develop premium mobility in the country, while promising continued investment in technology, products and customer service. He did not directly answer whether the rebranding was connected to the trademark dispute.

The dispute arose after PT Worcas Nusantara Abadi filed for the Denza name in Indonesia on July 3, 2023. BYD challenged the use of the mark in the Central Jakarta Commercial Court, but the court dismissed the company’s claim in full and ordered BYD to pay Rp 1.07 million in court costs.

BYD then pursued an appeal to Indonesia’s Supreme Court, which rejected its cassation request in case No. 1338 K/PDT.SUS-HKI/2025 while granting the request from Worcas. The ruling said evidence showed the Denza trademark had been transferred to PT Raden Reza Adi, rather than remaining with Worcas, and found BYD’s suit had named the wrong party. BYD has not publicly confirmed that the legal dispute was the reason for adopting Danza in Indonesia.
