M-Hero, the off-road brand under Dongfeng, has lifted the veil on the interior of its upcoming X700, the third model in the lineup alongside the 917 and M817. The SUV was first shown at the Chengdu auto show in late August, but that pre-production example kept visitors out with locked doors and tinted glass. Customers in China can place pre-orders starting September 28.
The five-seater pairs a dash-integrated instrument display with an enormous infotainment console built from two 15.6-inch panels, running Huawei's HarmonyOS with AI functions. Huawei is supplying most of the vehicle's electronics, including a driving-assistance suite that uses a lidar. The options list also covers a head-up display, a 21-speaker Huawei Sound setup, a refrigerator, grab handles on the tunnel, and a "crystal" rotary drive-mode selector.
Despite switching to a unibody structure, the X700 keeps a rugged look with a boxy silhouette, full-width LED daytime running strip, swing-open tailgate, and a choice of rear-mounted spare wheel or a storage box with its own screen. It stretches 5035 mm long and 1999 mm wide on a 2920 mm wheelbase, with 850 liters of cargo space and air suspension.
Powertrains consist of two plug-in hybrid variants based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine: one rated at 154 hp, the other at 129 hp working purely as a generator. Battery capacity is listed at either 51.46 or 68.1 kWh, good for an electric range of 228-285 km, presumably on the CLTC cycle. Output figures for the electric motors have not yet been disclosed, and more details should arrive once pre-orders begin.
