FAW Bestune has introduced a five-door version of its Pony electric city car in China, with a limited-time promotional price starting at 39,900 yuan (about US$5,600). The company says deliveries outside China have begun, but has not named the overseas markets. Also known as the Xiaoma in some markets, the new version seats four and is designed to make the rear seats more accessible than in the earlier three-door model.
The Pony has grown to 3.35 metres long, an increase of 35 cm, while its wheelbase is now 2.215 metres. Bestune says the longer cabin brings more rear legroom, and luggage capacity rises from 81 litres to 265 litres. Folding the rear seats expands the space to 1,052 litres. Width increases by 3 cm and height falls by 3 cm compared with the previous model.
Power comes from a rear-mounted electric motor rated at 40 hp, with a top speed of 103 km/h. Buyers can choose between 17-kWh and 27.2-kWh LFP batteries. The stated range is 222–328 km under China’s CLTC test cycle, or 182–269 km under WLTP. Equipment includes a 7-inch instrument display; a 10.1-inch central screen is optional.
FAW Bestune delivered 47,929 three-door Pony cars in China from January through September 2026, down 37.5% year on year. The five-door model’s larger cabin and boot address practical limitations of that version while retaining the Pony’s compact, city-focused format.
