Foton plans to bring the Tunland plug-in hybrid pickup to Malaysia in mid-2027, where it will be locally assembled. It will join the diesel mild-hybrid Tunland V7 and V9, which went on sale in May for RM123,800 and RM143,800 respectively. Distributor Handal BCM has not yet disclosed Malaysian PHEV prices, variants or full specifications.
The PHEV pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors and a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Its stated combined output is 350 kW, or 476 PS, with 800 Nm of torque and four-wheel drive. Foton South Africa quotes a 32.8 kWh battery and up to 110 km of electric range, while Chinese figures give a longer 125 km on the NEDC cycle. China-market charging includes 46 kW DC capability, taking the battery from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes.
The pickup measures 5,617 mm long, with a 3,355 mm wheelbase, and is rated to tow up to 3,500 kg. Its Chinese specification includes front and rear electronic differential locks and 15 drive modes. The model debuted in China in April under the name Foton Mars PHEV, and was later shown in Europe and South Africa.
The Tunland will not be Malaysia’s first PHEV pickup if the announced schedule holds: the JAC T9 PHEV is expected there earlier, with an estimated price of RM162,000. Jetour has also confirmed plans for its F700 PHEV pickup, though no Malaysian arrival date has been given.
