Freelander 8 EREV goes on sale in China from 309,900 yuan, fresh off a Guinness altitude record

Chery Jaguar Land Rover has put its Freelander 8 full-size EREV SUV on sale in China, with list prices spanning 309,900 to 399,900 yuan (about 46,120 to 59,520 USD) across six trims in five- and six-seat layouts. A limited-time promotion brings entry pricing down to 289,900 yuan, and the five-seater is positioned against the recently refreshed Li Auto L9 in the EREV crossover segment.

Power comes from a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender working with a 60.3 kWh CATL ternary battery that delivers a claimed 310 km of CLTC electric range and refills from 20 to 80% in 12 minutes thanks to 6C charging. Dual motors produce 610 kW (818 hp) and 813 Nm for a 4.6-second run to 100 km/h, while rear-wheel steering trims the turning radius to 5.15 meters. There is also air suspension, an all-terrain system co-developed with Huawei, and a 2,000 kg towing rating.

A roof-mounted 896-line LiDAR and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8397 chip enable Navigate On Autopilot on city streets and highways. Inside, buyers get a 46.3-inch panoramic display, six-seat captain's chairs with 16-point massage, a 17.3-inch overhead screen and a 10-liter fridge. The operating system is billed as the first 'human brain-like' automotive OS, covering everything from storytelling to off-road advice.

At the launch ceremony the company confirmed the SUV holds a Guinness World Record as the PHEV that has reached the highest altitude, 6,002.33 meters. Positioned as a global model, the Freelander 8 has already been seen testing in the UAE, where the brand is concentrating its overseas push alongside Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
