MG’s South African arm says its new flagship SUV, called the QS locally, will launch in the country in January 2027. The seven-seater was revealed in China earlier in 2026 as the MGS9. MG has yet to confirm the South African range or pricing, with those details expected closer to the launch.

The petrol-only option is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 153 kW and 355 N.m, paired with a nine-speed automatic. It will be offered with front- or all-wheel drive. MG quotes fuel consumption of 8.4 L/100 km for the front-drive version and 8.8 L/100 km for all-wheel drive, with respective claimed ranges of 774 km and 739 km. The plug-in hybrid combines a 105 kW, 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a front electric motor and a 24.7 kWh LFP battery. Its combined outputs are 220 kW and 350 N.m; claimed electric-only and total ranges are 100 km and 1,400 km.

The QS measures 4,983 mm long, 1,967 mm wide and 1,778 mm tall, with 180 mm of ground clearance. Luggage capacity is listed at 203 litres with all seats in use, rising to 514 litres when the third row is folded and 1,052 litres with the second row folded. Braked towing capacity is up to 2,000 kg.

Expected equipment includes dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker Bose system, three-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Safety and assistance features include a 360-degree camera and MG Pilot, with up to 16 driver-assistance functions. MG has not yet detailed the local specification.
