GAC’s Quark Electric Drive 2.0 received First Prize at the 2026 China Society of Automotive Engineers Science and Technology Awards, presented in Suzhou on October 28. The system combines an amorphous-alloy stator with a carbon-fibre rotor sleeve. Testing certified by the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute put peak motor efficiency at 99.03%; the integrated 12-in-1 drive achieved 94.184% efficiency under CLTC conditions, with power density of 17.29 kW/kg and maximum speed of 30,000 rpm.

The stator uses 0.025 mm-thick amorphous alloy ribbons in place of conventional silicon-steel laminations. GAC reports iron loss of 5.7 W/kg, about half that of ultra-thin silicon steel, and a saturation magnetic induction of 1.68 tesla. The rotor’s 1 mm carbon-fibre sleeve is designed to contain forces at high speeds while reducing mass. GAC also described production measures for bonding the sleeve and protecting it from heat and oil exposure.

GAC subsidiary RuiPai Powertrain makes the drive in Guangzhou on an automated line rated for 100,000 units annually. GAC says the technology has entered batch production in Hyptec and Aion models, including the 2027 Aion i60. The company estimates it can cut vehicle energy use by about 4% and add 30–50 km of CLTC range without a larger battery.

The award-winning project was developed by GAC and nine other organisations. Nio’s 925V continuous-wave winding system also received First Prize. Quark 2.0 builds on a 2024 production milestone reported by RuiPai, when an earlier powertrain reached 98.5% efficiency and 13 kW/kg power density.
