Geely Holding Group and Nio announced a strategic partnership on September 28, 2026, focused on linking their energy networks and developing battery-swapping technology and standards that can serve vehicles from multiple brands. Geely will transfer all of its Yiyi Power battery-swapping business to Nio Power and add 640 million yuan in cash in exchange for a 30% stake in Nio Power. Nio will take a 10% stake in Geely charging-network subsidiary Haohan Power.
The companies plan to develop shared battery-swapping standards for passenger cars. Geely intends to use them in future EVs, while Nio Power will provide supporting infrastructure and services. The agreement also envisages closer integration of the companies’ charging resources.
Nio Energy is targeting 10,000 battery-swap stations worldwide by 2030. Geely, meanwhile, aims to have more than 22,000 charging stations and 100,000 charging points across China by the end of 2027. Geely’s Yiyi Power currently operates about 470 swap stations in China, primarily serving taxis and ride-hailing vehicles.
