GWM has unveiled a trail-focused special edition of the Tank 300, dubbed the Hooke Trail, positioned as a credible rival to the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco. This is far more than a styling package: the front double-wishbone setup has been replaced with a solid-axle arrangement, built on the longer-wheelbase 300L platform (3.01 m) with 80 mm frame rails and new control arms.
The upgrades continue with a Panhard rod using reinforced bushings, a rigid steering linkage and a reworked electro-hydraulic steering system — GWM says the suspension is now 38% stiffer. A semi-active electronic disconnect for the anti-roll bar allows the front wheels to articulate up to 50 cm. Off-road figures include a 41° approach angle, 34° departure angle, 24.5 cm of ground clearance and 85 cm of wading depth, with tire sizes from 35 up to 40 inches possible with modifications.
Inside, the Hooke Trail keeps the 12.3-inch digital cluster and 15.6-inch touchscreen, adding Nappa leather and heated, ventilated and massaging seats, while a roof tent, refrigerator and extra LED lights are available as options. Power comes from a non-electrified 2.0 turbo producing 231 hp and 40.7 kgfm (roughly 400 Nm), driving all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic with electronic diff locks and a low-range gearbox. According to MIIT filings, a 3.0 turbo V6 variant will follow, though its specifications have yet to be revealed.
