A GWM Tank was involved in a fatal crash on Wednesday evening, Oct. 7, on Jalan Kamboja Raya in Palmerah, West Jakarta. Police said the vehicle first hit a welding cart, then continued into another cart and a parked car. It went on to strike a Honda Vario and another Honda motorcycle before swerving into a parked Daihatsu Ayla. The impact pushed the Ayla into a metal gate; the Tank then overturned and came to a stop.
One person, an unlicensed motorcycle-taxi driver, died. A 28-year-old motorcyclist, Nurmilah, was injured, according to police. Investigators are examining reports that the Tank’s driver and passenger had been arguing shortly before the crash. Police have not confirmed that account or established the cause.
The report also noted Indonesian traffic rules requiring drivers to remain attentive and, after a crash, to stop, assist victims and report the incident to police. It cited a possible penalty of up to three months’ detention or a Rp750,000 fine for driving without due care or while distracted. The article does not identify the Tank’s model variant.
