JAC’s Malaysian distributor, Evolvelectric Motors, has put an estimated price of RM162,000 on the T9 PHEV ahead of its expected arrival in early November. That would position the plug-in hybrid pickup between the T9 diesel, priced at RM120,000, and the T9 EV, at RM200,000. It is set to become Malaysia’s first plug-in hybrid pickup truck.
The distributor has also disclosed a range of equipment and capability claims: multi-link rear suspension, a 360-degree camera, 15 kW vehicle-to-load output and ADAS 2.0. It cites a five-star ANCAP safety rating, up to 1,000 km of range, 1,000 Nm of combined torque and a 3.5-tonne towing capacity. The towing figure matches the diesel T9; the electric version is rated to tow two tonnes.
The T9 PHEV will initially be imported as a complete vehicle. Local assembly is expected to follow at FT Assembly’s plant in Kulim, Kedah, which is operated by Feytech subsidiary FT Assembly. The facility is reported to have an 84,000-square-foot area and RM3.6 million investment. First-year production capacity is estimated at 3,000 units, with a local-content target of up to 30%.
For reference, the China-market version combines a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with two electric motors for a stated 523 PS and 1,000 Nm. Its 31.2 kWh LFP battery is rated for 100 km of electric driving and 1,000 km combined, both under NEDC. The Malaysian distributor’s stated 15 kW V2L and multi-link rear suspension differ from the China model’s 3.3 kW V2L and leaf-sprung solid rear axle.
