MG 07 racks up 42,000 firm orders in China in just 20 days

Three weeks after its Chinese market debut, SAIC's MG brand reports that the 07 fastback sedan has collected more than 42,000 locked orders. The car went on sale on August 21 at the Chengdu Auto Show, where the company says 10,000 commitments landed within just under two minutes — far quicker than the MG4, which needed nearly 40 minutes to reach the same mark.

Buyers choose between two powertrains. The plug-in hybrid pairs a 110-hp 1.5-litre engine with a 204-hp motor and a 30 kWh CATL LFP pack, delivering 245 km of CLTC electric range and up to 1,745 km combined. Entry electric versions run on 400V hardware with a 67 kWh pack — semi-solid-state cells from Qingtao on the 610 km trim — for 610 or 650 km of CLTC range, while the flagship uses an 800V silicon-carbide architecture, a 91 kWh CATL ternary battery, 5C charging and an 845 km CLTC figure. List prices span 108,900 to 159,900 yuan, dropping to 105,900–156,900 yuan with a launch incentive valid through September 30.

Three trims add a roof-mounted LiDAR running Momenta's R7 world model on MG's in-house X7 chip; at a discounted 115,900 yuan, the Hybrid 245 LiDAR ranks among China's cheapest cars with factory-fitted LiDAR, and the EV 845 LiDAR lists at 146,900 yuan. MG has its sights on the country's top-selling sedan crown: versions with more than 800 km of CLTC range made up over 45% of early orders, the company has already asked CATL to add two battery production lines, and deliveries of the PHEV and 650 km EV started in late August ahead of the 845 km variant in October. Named rivals include the BYD Seal 06 DM-i and Xpeng Mona M03.
